Plastic surgery and celebrity behavior change
Abstract
The recent Resolution of the Brazilian Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) No. 2,336/23, which allows broader dissemination of medical services, sheds light on the relationship between Plastic Surgery and the media. Analyzing data from Brazil, the US, and the UK, this study explores how female celebrities publicly address plastic surgery. From denial, as seen in Marilyn Monroe and Kim Kardashian, to transparency, like Anitta and Xuxa, it reveals the media’s evolving role in shaping societal acceptance of cosmetic procedures. In this context, plastic surgery has likely gained greater media presence with the popularization of cosmetic procedures, driven by celebrity acceptance and increased publicity.
